C. R. "Dick" McCurdy

Funeral service on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation on Tuesday, from 5-7 PM with a Masonic service at 7 PM at Jensen-Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, ND & one hour prior to service at the church. Interment Cavalier Cemetery, Cavalier, ND. Military rites by Laverne J. Thompson American Legion Post #11 of Cavalier, North Dakota & North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Dick was born on August 22, 1925 at Backoo, ND to Albert C. & Alice (Ballard) McCurdy. He graduated from the Walhalla High School in 1944. He attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. On October 28, 1950 he married Helen F. Brown. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. Following his service, he returned to the McCurdy family farm where he farmed. He owned & operated the McCurdy Shop in rural Cavalier for many years before retiring & moving into Cavalier. Dick was a member of the Cavalier Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was the treasurer of Advance Township & served on the hospital board for Pembina County Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Tongue River Lodge #22, Scottish Rite, Knights of Commander Court of Honor, York Rite, Kem Temple Shriners & Laverne J. Thompson American Legion Post #11 of Cavalier. Dick is survived by his children, Debbie Rham of Minot, North Dakota, David (Deborah) McCurdy of Cavalier, North Dakota, Rita McCurdy of Golden, Colorado; grandchildren, Greg Rham, Kristin Schlenker, Sarah Hinnenkamp, John McCurdy, Kent McCurdy, Jordan Tracy, Taylor Tracy; one great-grandchild, Kadence McCurdy; sister, Mary Barth of Missoula, Montana. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen, brother, James McCurdy & sister, Laura Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Shriners Hospital or Wedgewood Manor. Clergy: Rev. John Wirth.
