Byron Kreie

January 3, 1935 — March 22, 2011

Byron Kreie, 76, of Jamestown, ND, passed away March 22, 2011 at the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.

Byron was born January 3, 1935 at Brantford, ND to Walter and Grace Kreie. He grew up and was educated in New Rockford, ND. Byron began a lifelong career with Burlington Northern Railroad at the age of 17. Walter, his father, and Paul, his brother, were in the railroad too.

Byron and Lois (Coochie) Borgen were united in marriage in the United Methodist Church in Langdon on December 14, 1968. He worked railroad gangs from December of 1968 to October of 1969, so they moved from town to town in North Dakota and Minnesota. In October of 1969 their traveling days came to an end, and they made their home in Valley City, ND just in time to welcome their daughter, Shawna Elaine, into the world. Shawna was born in the Langdon Hospital with her Aunty Olga Feil as her nurse. Their son, Darrin, was born in Valley City, with no aunt that time. In 1987 they moved to Cooperstown, ND where Shawna and Darrin graduated from high school. In July of 1990 they moved to Jamestown. Byron liked fishing, camping, watching TV, and playing checkers. Byron retired from the railroad, and Lois passed away May 21, 2004. Most recently Byron had made his home at Ave Maria Village.

Byron is survived by his daughter, Shawna, and son, Darrin, - both of Jamestown, and grandchildren Hope and Heather Schock.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, parents, four infant siblings, brother Paul who had lived at New Rockford, ND, sister Nettie Leinhart who had lived at Fargo, ND and Mavis Ridge who had lived at Anoka, MN.

Services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Ave Maria Village Chapel in Jamestown.

Interment will be held later in the spring at Hannah, ND next to his wife Lois.
