Beulah L. Johnston age 95 of Minot, ND formerly of Crystal and Grand Forks, ND, passed on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Manor Care, in Minot. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial in the Crystal Memorial Cemetery.
Beulah Lucille Bradshaw was born September 18, 1914, at the home of her parents, George and Lillian (Grace) Bradshaw, at Voltaire, ND. She graduated from Velva High School in 1933. After high school she moved to Crystal where she cared for her uncle Hilliard Bradshaw. It was there she met Vernon Johnston. They were married September 10, 1940, and soon moved to Seattle, WA where he worked for Boeing Aircraft during the war. In 1945, they returned to North Dakota and eventually resided in Crystal. In 1965, Beulah started working for the Grafton State School and retired in 1982.
She was a pioneer in the Foster Grandparent program being the first to move into the Developmental Centers new programs. Beulah led the foster grandparent departure from the center to working with Upper Valley Special Education and Preschool. For 17 years she worked with the program in Grand Forks.
Survivors include her children, Jim (Joyce) Johnston, Cavalier, ND, Kathleen (Jim) Foltz, Minot, ND, Michelle Jesperson, East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren, Todd Johnston, Connie Hanenberg, Justin and Amy Johnston, Jennifer Johnston, Scott and Rochelle Foltz, Ryan Foltz, and Dustin Fladland.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Vernon, brothers, Wilbur, Jim, Paul, and Jack, and son-in-law, Dennis Jesperson.
