Betty Sparks

Betty Sparks, 74, of Calvin, ND, passed away October 4, 2006 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.

Betty Jean Kays was born September 23, 1932 to George and Eliza (Mountain) Kays at her grandmother’s home near Calvin. She grew up in Calvin attending grade school at Mount Pleasant and high school at Calvin graduating in the class of 1950. She went on to attend college in Minot, ND for one year. William Russell Sparks and Betty were united in marriage on October 28, 1951 at Calvin. They made their home in rural Calvin and later moved into town in 1978. Bill passed away March 4, 1985 and Betty continued to make her home in Calvin where she was very active in the Community. She served on the Corinthian Cemetery Board, the Election Board, was a member of the Glenila Presbyterian Church of Calvin and the United Presbyterian Women’s Organization, the Order of the Eastern Star and she devoted a lot of time to the Calvin Alumni Association. As an avid sports fan and loving grandma, Betty spent much of her time following her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Betty is survived by her children: Shelley (Phil) Wold of Calvin, ND; Kelly Sparks of Calvin, ND; Holly (Galen) Fetsch of Munich, ND; and Peggy (Daryld) Carlson of Rock Lake, ND, grandchildren: Steven (Lindsay) Wold of Grand Forks, ND; Mark Wold of Wahpeton, ND; Drew Wold of Calvin, ND; Emelia Sparks of Grand Forks, ND; Matthew (Kyla) Fetsch of Grafton, ND; Joshua (Teryn) Fetsch of Beulah, ND; Katrina Fetsch of Munich, ND; Casey Carlson of Rock Lake, ND and Heather Carlson of Rock Lake, ND and Great-Granddaughter Isabelle Fetsch of Beulah, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bill.

Visitation will begin at 5pm Saturday evening with a 7pm Prayer Service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Sunday.
