Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Radke, 86, of Bismarck, formerly of Walhalla and Dickinson, ND died September 8, 2009, at St. Vincent's Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND, with Rev. Thomas J. Krupich officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at the Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND. Burial in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Betty was born May 28, 1923, in Walhalla, ND to Thomas and Sarah (Zimmer) Beaudry. She was raised and educated in Walhalla and was valedictorian of her class. She also attended Union Commercial College in Grand Forks. Betty was employed by M.C. Rutherford Co., University of California Riverside, Par Site, Forestry Service, and was co-owner of Radke's Variety. Betty married J. Donald Radke on June 2, 1947, in Walhalla and together had three children.
While living in Walhalla she enjoyed her flower garden and rides in the country to see the deer and beautiful countryside. She was an active member in the St. Boniface Church and the Legion of Mary. Betty was an avid follower of the North Border High School basketball team.
Family was always the most important part of her life. She especially enjoyed the 50th anniversary gathering that her family gave her and her husband at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin 12 years ago.
She is survived by her husband, Don, of Bismarck, three daughters, Mary Beth (Dieter) Kuper of Chicago, IL, Ann Tongen, of Bismarck, Therese (Dan) Orr of Billings, MT, three grandchildren, James Kuper, Bethany Kuper, and Chris (Meaghan) Tongen.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers, Mervin, Norbert, and Donald, and sisters, Marie, Audrey, Veda, Marcella, and Helene.
The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff at St. Vincent's Care Center and MedCenter One Hospice.
