Betty L. Plummer

July 15, 1930 — November 24, 2014

Betty Plummer, 84, of Devils Lake, ND and formerly of Hannah and Langdon, ND, passed away on November 24, 2014 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.

Betty was born July 15, 1930, the youngest of John and Birdie (Arendt) Zarn. Betty grew up and attended school in rural Harvey Township near Langdon, ND. On November 9, 1950 she married Ostle Plummer in Langdon. They spent their first years of marriage living and farming in Harvey Township. In November of 1954, Betty and Ostle bought a farm by Hannah, ND. Over the years, they worked side by side tending cattle, raising chickens and turkeys and planting their land. Betty was a classic farm wife- in the summer she was pitching small bales for the cattle, plowing fields, and running the combine in the fall. She had a huge garden that she tended and canned all the produce. Betty’s fingers were never idle. In the winter, she was busy crocheting Afghans for her children, grandchildren and various other individuals. She was well-known in the family as the original home improvement guru as she was always looking for ways to improve her home.

In 1995, Ostle and Betty retired from farming and soon moved to Langdon, ND. Betty’s faith and love for her Heavenly Father helped her when their oldest son, David, passed away in September 2002 and husband Ostle passed away in March 2003. Betty moved to Devils Lake, ND in June 2004 where she resided until the time of her death. While living in Devils Lake, Betty enjoyed spending time playing cards with all the wonderful friends she met at the Senior Center and VFW.

Betty’s greatest joy in her life was her children and grandchildren. She made each of her children and grandchildren feel like they were her greatest treasure. We will all miss our mother, grandmother, and aunt. Our memories of her kind and gentle spirit will always guide us as we find a way to go on without her.

Betty is survived by her sons: Douglas (Linda) Plummer of Hannah, ND, Dale (Diana) Plummer and Dennis (Karen) Plummer of Langdon, ND; daughter Darla (John Halgren) Plummer of Devils Lake, ND; daughter-in-law Judi Plummer of Devils Lake; and grandchildren: Katie Christenson, Jenny (Craig) Gjovik, Christopher Plummer, Timothy Plummer, Langdon (Alyssa) Plummer, Joshua Plummer, Dustin Plummer, Jessica Plummer and Nicole Plummer. She lovingly had eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by husband Ostle, son David, parents John and Birdie Zarn, grandson-in-law Shane Christenson, and siblings: Alyce Danielson, Orvil Zarn, Delphia Mutcher, Mabel Dalsted, Helen Koehmstedt and John Zarn.
