Betty McGillivray, 85, of Cavalier, ND passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial will be held in the Bathgate Cemetery, Bathgate, ND.
Betty was born March 30, 1927, at Cavalier to Ernest Earl and Myrtle (Ault) Surerus. She grew up in Cavalier, graduating from Cavalier High School in 1945. She then attended Valley City Teachers College and taught school in rural Pembina County for 10 years.
On October2, 1954, she married Neil McGillivray at Cavalier. After their marriage they farmed in the Bathgate area. She was active in the United Methodist Women, where she held various offices at the local and conference levels.
Survivors include her husband, Neil; children: Tim (Martha) McGillivray, Pembina, ND and Maureen (Tom) Swanson, Hallock, MN; grandchildren: Scott McGillivray, St. Paul, MN and Ryan McGillivray, Fargo, ND; Shannon and Ericka Swanson, both of Hallock; siblings: Earl (Marilyn) Surerus, Fargo, Milt (Bonnie) Surerus, Raymond, MN, Howard Surerus, Cavalier, and Ruth DeMars, Irvine, CA.
Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Donna Sandgren.
Clergy: Rev. Lori Broschat.
Music: Jim Hines, Soloist and Bettie Lou Stegman, Organist.
Casket Bearers: Jim Brown, Ryan McGillivray, Scott McGillivray, Robert Schroeder, Howard Surerus,
and Chuck Watson.
