Betty L. Born

Betty L. Born, 82, formerly of St. Thomas, ND passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at Gulf Coast Hospital, Fort Myers, FL. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Crystal, ND.
Betty Lou McMartin was born November 21, 1931, to William and Bertha (Sand) McMartin. She grew up on a farm near St. Thomas, ND and graduated from St. Thomas High School. After graduating from Aakers Business College, she worked at Central High School and Minnkota Power both in Grand Forks, ND.
On July 22, 1955, she married Fred A. Born at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Crystal, ND. After their marriage they lived on a farm west of St. Thomas, where they farmed. When Fred retired from farming they lived in St. Thomas and spent winters in North Fort Myers, FL. After they sold their home in St. Thomas, their summers were spent at Fish Hook Lake near Park Rapids, MN. Betty loved to cook, entertain, sew, and decorate. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Fred; daughter, Debra, North Fort Myers, FL; sister, Jeanette (John) Lukenda, Trenton, NJ; brother, Bill (Enis) McMartin, Carmichael, CA; sister-in-law, Bernice McMartin, St. Thomas, ND; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Bill Born; brother, Jack McMartin.
