Bessie M. Thomson Durkee age 94 of Cavalier, ND died on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23rd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service and Eastern Star service at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Bessie M. Fuller was born December 20, 1910, near Hamilton, ND. to Thomas and Christine (Dickie) Fuller. She grew up and attended school at Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1928. Following graduation she attended Mayville State Teachers College. Bessie taught school for over 30 years, including the South Carlisle Township School, Tyner School, and at the Cavalier Public School until her retirement in 1973. For 22 years she lived in Mesa, AZ, until she returned to Cavalier in 1996. Since 2001, she has resided at the Wedgewood Manor. She was organist at the Cavalier and Hamilton Presbyterian Churches and was a member of the Cavalier Order of the Eastern Star.
On September 29, 1935, she married Ed A. Thomson at Cavalier, ND. Ed died on April 27, 1976. She then married George Durkee in 1981 and he died in 1991.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Lillian) Thomson, Cavalier, ND, Edward G. (Caroline) Thomson, Churchville, MD, and Ellen (John) Fowler, The Colony, TX, nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Bessie was also preceded in death by her parents, great grandson, Jake Nordstrom, and brothers, William, Graham, and Ronald.
