Bernadine Mikkelsen

Bernadine Mikkelsen, 101, of Langdon, ND passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.

Bernadine M. Kartes was born to John & Anna (Metzger) Kartes on July 29, 1912 at the Kartes family farm near Mt. Carmel, ND. Bernadine attended country school near Mt. Carmel. She was united in marriage to Marvin Mikkelsen on February 3, 1930. Bernadine and Marvin lived and farmed in West Hope Township then moved to Mt. Carmel Township where they purchased Bernadine’s family farm in 1941. They lived there until 1960 when they moved to Langdon. Bernadine lived on her own in her home before becoming a resident at Maple Manor Care Center in February of 2013.

Bernadine loved to knit. All of her grandchildren have an afghan made by her, and many of her great- and great-great-grandchildren have blankets. She loved flowers and made sure her deck was full of them. Bernadine had a good memory and could name all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren. She loved to go to the farm and went on the combine well into her 90s. She was in many 5 generations photos. Bernadine was a member of Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. She enjoyed attending Discipleship Bible Study Group on Wednesday mornings.

Bernadine is survived by her sons: Melford (Norma) of Seattle, WA, Ronald (Bette) of Langdon, Ted of Langdon, Floyd (Betty) of Langdon, Wayne (Audrey) of Langdon, Tom (Leota) of Langdon, Dennis (Gloria) of Langdon, Merle (Kaye) of Grand Forks, ND, Dale of Wenatchee, WA; daughter-in-law Marjorie Mikkelsen of Langdon; 54 grandchildren; 109 great-grandchildren; 54 great-great-grandchildren; brother Lowell (Marilyn) Kartes of Langdon and sister Florentine Gapp of Langdon.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin; sons Joseph and Gerald; daughter Darlene; grandchildren: Barbara Mikkelsen, Kelly Mikkelsen, Justin Mikkelsen; 6 brothers: Sylvestor, Mark, Clem, Allen, Abraham, Henry; sister Laura Perius Bruers; and daughters-in-law: Lois & Olivene.

VISITATION: Friday, November 22, 2013 from 5-7:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon with the Rosary at 6:15 and Prayer Service starting at 7:00. Visitation will also take place for one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church of Langdon, ND.

INTERMENT: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery ~ Mt. Carmel, ND
