Becky Morrison, 98, of Bathgate, ND passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011, at the Borg Memorial Home, Mountain, ND. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bathgate Presbyterian Church, Bathgate, ND. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 28th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Bathgate Cemetery.
Bergthora "Becky" Einarson, who her parents named Gudfinna Bergthora Einarson, was born November 6, 1913, in Bantry, ND to Stefan and Elsabet (Kristjanson) Einarson. She was named for characters in Icelandic Folklore. She was the tenth child of the family. After her mother died of leukemia in December of 1922, her father later married her stepmother in 1925. Becky attended Elm Grove School #3 in McHenry County and then attended Upham High School graduating in 1931. She then attended Bottineau School of Forestry for one year and then Minot State Teachers College, earning a Second Grade Certificate in Elementary Education. She then taught in rural school for four years and then a year in a consolidated school in Russell, ND. Becky then attended UND for two years, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
From 1940 to 1943 she taught school in Bathgate, where she met Russell J. Morrison. They were married on July 3, 1943, in Pecos, TX where Russell was completing training as a pilot in a B-17 Bomber before deploying to England to complete 36 combat missions over Europe. After raising four children, she continued teaching for five years in Hamilton, ND, halftime in Music and English.
She was a member of the Bathgate Presbyterian Church where she was an active member, including being a Sunday school teacher and choir director. Other organization she was active in included the Pioneer Daughters of Pembina County, Heritage Center at Icelandic State Park, Icelandic Heritage Society of Minot, American Legion Auxiliary of Neche, and the Order of Eastern Star of Bathgate.
Becky loved baking, cooking, gardening, as well as reading. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survivors include her children: Clare Hauck, Moorhead, MN, Charles (Jan) Morrison, Bathgate, John (Irene) Morrison, Neche; grandchildren: Jodi Perkins, Aaron Hauck, Benita Hauck, Lauri Morrison, Tanya Morrison, Chris Morrison, Jeremy Morrison, Kirk Morrison, Eric Morrison, and Darin Morrison; great grandchildren: Madeleine, Logan, and Braeden; Sheridan, James, and Davis; Caitlyn and Caleb.
Preceding her in death are her husband of over 50 years, Russell James Morrison; son, James Thor Morrison; as well as all her siblings.
