Arnold L. Beyer, 80 of Grafton and formerly of Hamilton, ND died Saturday, November 8, 2008, at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial in the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Cemetery, Cavalier.
Arnold was born February 11, 1928, at Williston, ND to Melvin and Lillian (King) Sperry. He grew up in the Hamilton area and attended the Carlisle Township School. He served in the U.S. Navy and after his discharge returned to the Hamilton area to farm.
On July 15, 1950, he married Catherine Elsbernd at the St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Cavalier. Arnold also worked at Motor Coach Industries and the North Dakota Truck Regulatory retiring in 1993. In 1995, he retired from farming.
Arnold was a member of the Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion , where he was an very active member serving in various offices and was a past commander of the post.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine, children, Karen (Robert) Shafer, Leonard, MN, Yvonne (Scott) Jackson, Mebane, NC, Mavis (Ron) Johnson, Seneca, KS, Richard (Sonya) Beyer, Grafton, ND, grandchildren, Charlette, Christopher, Rana Kaye, Ariel, Jay, Jon, Aleece, Michelle, Heather, and Wyatt, great grandchildren, William, Lauren, Jameson, and Evelyn, sister, Beverly (Merle) Lind, Fargo, ND and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Melvin Sperry and Alfred and Lillian Beyer, and sister, Dorothy Edwards.
Clergy: Rev. Beth Peterson and Rev. Fr. Jason Lefor.
Music: Jenny DeMell, Soloist and Christine Hughes and Heather Beyer, Organists.
Military Rites and Casket Bearers: Members of the Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
