Arlys Mae Timian

Arlys Mae Timian, 86, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier. Visitation will be held. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11th, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.

Arlys was born May 21, 1932, in Cavalier, the daughter of Lillian (Kuschel) and John Sommer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural St. Thomas.

She graduated from Cavalier High School in 1950 and attended Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. Arlys married Richard Timian September 14, 1952, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier. They had two children, Timothy and Susan.

Arlys began as an organist at Our Savior Lutheran Church when she was 16 years old and continued for the next 50+ years. She also gave private piano lessons for many years.

Arlys was an active member of the Lutheran Womens Missionary League, her China Painting Group, the Cavalier Study Club, and her beloved Bridge Club.

After her children were grown, she began working at the Needle Nook, continued at Peterson Photography and Framing, and then spent many happy years with her crew at Cindy’s Hang-Ups.

Arlys is survived by her loving husband Richard, of sixty-six years, children Tim (LaDonna) Timian and Susan Stibbe, grandchildren Ashley Timian, Bismarck, ND, Matthew (Josette) Timian, Bismarck, ND, Emily (Jake) Dahl, Horace, ND, and Kaitlyn Timian, Moorhead, MN, great-grand daughter Eleanore Arlys Timian and brother Laverne Sommer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and John Sommer, her parents-in-law Erna and Ben Timian, and her son-in-law Bill Stibbe.
