Ann Roppel

Ann Roppel, 78, of Alsen, ND, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Tamarack Court Assisted Living in Bemidji, MN after a battle with brain cancer.

Ann Claire (Johnson) Roppel was born October 17, 1935 to Ruth (Tyce) (Johnson) Schultz in Scranton, PA. When she was three years old, her family moved to Kennedy, MN where she attended country school and later school in Kennedy, graduating valedictorian of her class. Ann married Clifford “Cliff” Roppel on January 16, 1954 in Karlstad, MN. They started their family and farmed in Storlie Township, rural Alsen. In 1967, they moved their farm east of Alsen where they lived until semi-retiring in 1985 when they moved into Alsen.

Ann was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with family and friends. Her favorite times were holidays where her whole family was home and the house was buzzing. Baking was a passion, and she loved to make everyone’s favorite cookie, cake, cinnamon rolls or buns and wanted to make sure the family was taken care of with baked goods during spring’s work and harvest. Ann was a Christian woman who taught and led by example. She was kind and giving and always ready to help anyone in need. She enjoyed traveling with some of her favorite trips being those to Israel, Australia, and Alaska, as well as many camping trips.

Ann is survived by sons: Robert (Carla) Roppel of Erskine, MN, Michael (Debbie) Roppel of Alsen, Terry (Joy) Roppel of Alsen; daughter Cheri (Brad) Ware of Hines, MN; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends: Marion Albrecht, Barb Klein, Violet Eickenbrock, Joyce & Clinton Klein and Mary Werner. She was preceded in death by husband Clifford, her mother, and brother David Tyce. She will be missed by many.

Visitation: Friday, June 13, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.

Service: Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 10:30 p.m. at Swiss Mennonite Church of Alsen, ND

Memorial Service: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Evangelical Free Church of Blackduck, MN

Interment: Alsen Cemetery
