Alton Horsley, 82, of Walhalla, ND passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial in the Bruce Cemetery, Neche, ND.
Alton was born March 26, 1930, near Neche to Thomas and Ruby (Inglis) Horsley. He grew up in the Neche area where he attended school and also attended the Walsh County Agricultural School. Alton served in the U.S. Navy . After his discharge from the service he returned to the Neche area where he farmed. In 1959, he married Joyce Douville and they had three children. He was a member of the Neche American Legion Post.
On November 15, 1985, Alton extended his family by marrying Audrey Goulet, adding three stepchildren to the family. His favorite pastimes were attending his grandchildren's activities, gardening, canning, cooking, and bike riding.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; children: Tonna Horsley, Fargo, ND, Terri (Jon) Boe, Mapleton, ND, Thomas (Lorrie) Horsley, Neche; stepchildren: Christal (Brian) Schlecht, Cavalier, Scott (Michele) Goulet, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Megan Ricker and Tasha Horsley; Rebecca and Dustin Elliott, Max Boe; Kelsey, Kieran, and Kylah Horsley; Alex, Sally, Jasmin, and Brayson Schlecht; Jordan and Carter Goulet; great grandchildren: Taylor Ganser, Michael Rudolph, T.J. Engelstad, Kaeson Hedstrom, and Hazel Elliott. siblings: Garnet Horsley, Grand Forks, ND and Lois (Lou) Daby, Fargo.
Preceding him in death were his parents; stepdaughter, Connie Goulet, and sister, Dora Mae Grube.
Clergy: Rev. Beth Peterson.
Military Rites: Gainer-McAndrew Post #242, Neche American Legion and North Dakota National Guard Funeral Honor Guard.
Music: Rene Cashin, Soloist and Bettie Lou Stegman, Accompanist.
