Allen Henry Stevens, 91, of Langdon, ND passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.
Allen was born August 25, 1923 to William and Helen (Hoffarth) Stevens at their farm in Mt. Carmel Township, Cavalier County, ND. Allen attended school in Mt. Carmel. Allen was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939, working at the International Peace Gardens. He also worked on the family farm. Allen and Selma Hemminger were united in marriage at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on October 30, 1945. After working on the John Bata farm for a year, Allen took over the family farm near Mt. Carmel, ND, raising small grains and livestock. They made their home on the farm where they raised their family of seven children. They built a new home in Langdon in 1980. Allen moved to Maple Manor Care Center in October of 2010.
Allen was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church from birth until his move to Langdon in 1980 when he became a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Allen was a member of Knights of Columbus, Cavalier County Senior Citizens Center and a pinochle club. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and deer hunting with his family and friends. After his retirement, Allen continued growing a large garden at the farm.
Allen is survived by wife Selma of Langdon; two daughters: Sharon (John) Bear of Chanhassen, MN, Linda (Rick) Zeis of West Fargo, ND; five sons: David (Ann) Stevens of Grand Forks, ND, Dennis (Sandy Sivertson) Stevens of Bottineau, ND, Rodney (Ruth) Stevens of Lakota, ND, Jeffrey Stevens of Langdon, Douglas (Connie) Stevens of Allen, TX; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; brother Keith Stevens of Detroit Lakes, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: James, Lester & Earl, and sisters Imelda Chaput and Genevieve Lill Washebek.
Services: Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon, ND.
Visitation: Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with the Rosary at 6:30 and a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon, ND.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery - Langdon, ND
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Maple Manor Care Center.
