Allen Smith, 51, of Langdon, ND passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 in Bismarck, ND.
Allen Joseph Smith was born on November 9, 1959 in Grand Forks, ND to Marvin and Marion (Vleck) Smith. He attended elementary school in Wales and graduated from Langdon High School in 1978. After graduating, Allen worked for a local farmer for two years while attending NDSU before becoming a truck driver in Dickinson, ND for two winters. In 1980, Allen began farming with his father and brother, Don. During his winters, he traveled to Columbia, Spain and Haiti doing mission work. Allen married Laurie Bimler on October 8, 1983 and to this union two sons were born, Jared in 1986 and Jadyn in 1991. Allen married Beth Borgeson on July 8, 2005 and welcomed four step-children: Tami, Darren, Kevin and Vanessa to his family. Allen and Beth opened Smoothys Bar & Grill in Wales, ND. Allen continued to farm while running Smoothys with his wife, Beth.
Allen loved motorcycles, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and going out to Mt. Carmel Dam. He enjoyed socializing, entertaining and cooking for his family and his customers. He was a member of the Masons and was a Shriner. Allen was a former Langdon school board member and was a member of the Emmanuel Evangelical Church.
Allen is survived by his wife: Beth of Langdon; two sons: Jared (Mallory) Smith of Yankton, SD and Jadyn Smith of Langdon; four step-children: Tami Rostvet of Park River, ND, Darren Dvorak of Grafton, ND, Kevin (Asha) Dvorak of Kansas City, MO, Vanessa Ellefson of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren: Colby, Colton, & Cassie Rostvet and Ari & Alina Dvorak; siblings: Ted (Lori) Smith of Bismarck, ND, Kathy (Gavin) Dietz of Bismarck, ND, Don (Maureen) Smith of Osnabrock, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Allen in death were his parents, Marvin and Marion Smith.
Services for Allen will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Church of Langdon, ND.
Visitation will take place on Monday, August 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Church. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
Burial will take place on a later date at Union Cemetery near Osnabrock, ND.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Shriners Hospital for Children ââ¬â Twin Cities (donate2shc.org).
