Alida Roppel

Alida Roppel, 93, of Fairdale, ND passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Osnabrock Community Living Center in Osnabrock, ND.

Alida Verke was born August 17, 1923 near Nekoma, ND to Carl Sr. and Caroline (Hanson) Verke. She grew up and was schooled in the Nekoma area. On May 23, 1941, Alida married Clarence Roppel in Alsen, ND. They farmed near Alsen then moved to Minot for a short time. They returned to Alsen and Loma then settled in Osnabrock Township where they farmed and raised their family. Alida and Clarence were fortunate to live on the farm during the summer months and live at their home in Nokomis, FL in the winter.

Alida loved the outdoors. She enjoyed mowing the yard, taking care of the farm, fishing, camping, toying around in the shop, and even drove combine during harvest. When she and Clarence operated a custom combining crew, she cooked for about 16 people. She also loved to cook and bake for her family, especially chocolate chip cookies. Her grandchildren always knew where Grandma Alida’s deep freeze was! Alida also enjoyed playing baseball with her grandchildren and playing Skip-bo with her family. One of her greatest joys was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alida was a member of the Ladies Aide at Highland Lutheran and at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was also a member of the congregation.

Surviving Alida are her children: Jerry (Darlene) of Bismarck, ND, Carol (Craig) Klein of Fargo, ND, & Don (Dawn) Roppel of Fairdale, ND; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: David Roppel, Alissa (Matthew) Schramm- Kyan, Brody & Aniah, Amanda (Jamie) Beutler- Aidan, Harper & Emery , Ashley (Michael) Schramm- Dawson, Carson & Tayson, Tammy (John) Wolf- Matthew & Emma, Lanetta (Chad) Franzoi- Zachary & Samantha, Dale (Lorie) Klein- Alex, Kayla & Cole, Christopher (Nicole) Roppel- Eli & Jordan, Dallas (Amy) Roppel- Lexie, Casey, Dylan & Charlie, & Josh (Tess) Roppel- Kate & Cole; sisters-in-law Shirley Verke & Ella Verke; and brother-in-law Everett Latulippe.

Alida was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, granddaughter Tawnya Roppel, and siblings: Bryan, Ethel Gerszewski, William, Lloyd, Inga Hammer, Hartley, Edwin, Clayton, Violet DePlazes, Marion Latulippe, Selma Jensen, Gilbert, and Carl “Bud” Jr..

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fairdale, ND. Visitation will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 prayer service on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon, ND. Interment: Nekoma Lutheran Cemetery.
