Alice Jean Stark-Anderson, 67 passed away May 23 at her home surrounded by her family and dog after over a 17 year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Cavalier. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alice was born to Rienhold and Rita (Defoe) Stark on February 13, 1957 in Cavalier, ND. She grew up on her family farm and attended school in Neche, ND graduating in 1975. She received her Bachelor's & Master's degrees in education from the University of North Dakota. Alice married Keven Szarkowski in 1980 and had two daughters, Jessie and Abby. She worked at several schools in North Dakota and Minnesota in special education, mathematics & science. Alice married Roger Anderson June 15, 2001 and gained two more daughters, Tiffany and Danielle. She worked with at-risk youth and then as an activity director at a senior living facility in Bemidji, MN where she resided for 20 years before retiring and moving back to Cavalier.
Alice enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, pontooning on the lake, and spending time at their camper with Roger. She liked canning, baking, restoring furniture, collecting craft supplies, and volunteering. She organized monthly get-togethers for the Bemidji Breast Cancer Support Group which led to volunteer work with Beltrami County Relay for Life. She was also very active in her daughters’ club swim team. Most recently she volunteered at the Pembina Food Pantry. Alice found joy in sharing meals with her family and friends, cozying up in her recliner with a cup of reheated tea and her dogs over the years, and doing anything with her grandkids, Bria, Amelia, Nolan & Wyatt.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Jessica Szarkowski (Jake Boeshans) and Abigail Szarkowski; step-daughters Tiffany (Matt) Foss and Danielle Streitz; granddaughters Bria Boeshans and Amelia Streitz; grandsons Nolan Foss and Wyatt Foss; mother Rita Stark; siblings Darlene (Stacey) Roberts, Richard (Darlene) Stark, Michael (Shelle) Stark, and Peggy Stark, her dog Lucy; numerous cousins and friends, many nieces and a few nephews.
