Adrian Askew

d. December 30, 2011

Adrian Leslie Askew was born January 2, 1938, on the family farm in Pembina County, North Dakota, to Leslie and Edna Horsley Askew. He was the youngest of 7 children and the apple of his mother's eye.
He attended grade school in a one room country school called East Leroy which was near the farm. In the 4th grade the family moved to Cavalier, N. D. He finished school there graduating from Cavalier High School in 1956. During high school he was active in basketball, track, and football. He played on two undefeated football teams as a running back. He loved all sports and especially loved watching boxing on T.V. Despite being a graduate of UND, he much preferred NDSU Bison Football especially when his nephew Mark and son Craig played on the team.
In 1956 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two years. Following his discharge he attended UND, graduating in 1963 with a degree in business and accounting.
On June 26, 1959, he married Carole McPherson in the Cavalier Presbyterian Church. They celebrated 52 wonderful years of marriage and raised 4 terrific sons--Stuart, Robert, Craig, and Jason.
After graduating from UND he went to work in the credit department of J.I. Case Machinery. In 1970 he was transferred to Billings, Montana, and the family moved there January 1, 1970. In 1971 he had an opportunity to buy into a Case Dealership in Manhattan, Montana, where they lived for 2 years. In 1972 the family returned to Cavalier where he went into partnership with his brother Russell to buy the family farm which was a life long dream for him. You can take the boy off the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy! He happily farmed until 2002 when he retired.
His health deteriorated with COPD and congestive heart failure, and in 2008 he and Carole moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. for medical treatment.
He was a lifelong Presbyterian and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls. His faith was strong, and he was ready to go home to his Heavenly Father which he did on December 30, 2011, at 9:30 A.M.
He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, member of the Red River Valley Sugar Beet Growers Assoc., Cavalier City Auditor, Cavalier City Assessor, and served on the Cavalier Recreation Board.
Survivors include his wife, Carole, sons, Stuart and Beth Thomson, Robert, Craig and Stephanie, and Jason and Tracey; grandchildren: Andrew and Nicholas Askew, Nathan Askew, Kate and Claire Askew, Maya and Ava Prince and Brynn and Kellen Askew; brothers: Russell and Maureen and Gordon and Norma; sisters: Doreen, Ivadele, and Grace; sisters in law: Ileen Askew and Heather Neis.
